Martis Bracelet - Sundial
On the 1st of March it is customary in Greece for everyone to wear these braided bracelets. These bracelets are called 'Martis', which means March. They are made of red and white string, and tokens of nature or symbols of Greek traditions. The legend of these bracelets dates back from ancient times in Greece. People wear these bracelets as a protection from the rays of the early Spring sun, and as good luck to usher in the warmer season. Commonly worn between March 1st through 31st, but can be enjoyed all year long!
This is a macrame bracelet and lengthens if you gently pull apart and tightens if you
pull the ends.
This collection comes with an additional red and white string, with glass beads on end, to tie around your wrist, as a symbol of the strings to hang on the tree at then end of March season, legend has it that the strings were used by birds as nest material.
Materials: cotton cord, jade string, metal connector, glass beads.
