Manos and Mikis - a musical journey
The Greek Music Ensemble is celebrating its 15-year anniversary and is proud to present Manos and Mikis, a CD featuring the music of Manos Hadjidakis and Mikis Theodorakis. The creation and release of this CD, dedicated to the music of Manos and Mikis, has been a long-time project for the Greek Music Ensemble, and one that is very close to our hearts. Our approach, interpretation, and arrangements of their music is unique and it represents the perspective of the ensemble artistically, aesthetically and emotionally.
Manos and Mikis, the two world renown, monumental figures of 20th Century Greek Art Music, successfully married poetry with music for more than 50 years, leading the cultural history of our land, Greece, through a fascinating journey. Their artful musical creations carried the feelings, hopes, aspirations and troubles of entire generations, and embodied the yearning of an entire people.
Manos' and Mikis’ music integrates the Folk, Byzantine, and Urban music tradition of the land, and uses lyrics that come from the verses of the greatest Greek poets of the century, including two Nobel laureates: Odysseus Elytis and Giorgos Seferis.
